Own a website? Is it secure & up to date?

If you have a website, unmanaged & unmaintained – you might as well shut it down.

A website needs to be backed up and kept up to date!

The information age has no doubt bestowed upon us a slew of virtual monsters. However, regular backups and general maintenance to a website and all of its aspects is vital in ensuring that a site performs at full capacity; optimally  – perhaps the equivalent of an apple a day.

The most obvious risk in an unmanaged and outdated website is that it opens itself (or you) up for an array of security risks or cyber security attacks, which could leave you in a vulnerable and compromised position.

Attacks:

To break it down quite simply; there are two major types of attacks.

Firstly, we have what’s commonly known as a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks or the attempt thereof. The purpose of a DDoS attack is simple: deny service to the customers or users of this service by rendering them unable to access the site, or even get it to load when browsing.

Secondly, we have what is classified as a hacking attack with the objective being to steal data, in any means possible. This happens almost silently and access can be gained without anyone noticing. The reality is attacks happen and at times go unnoticed leaving hackers free to run rampant and leave trails of destruction because hackers are good especially when no one is watching them.

But these are only 2examples of many different types of attacks, consequently, it is extremely important that your website is secured.

If you’d like to understand the different types of attacks better, read here.

Back up your content!

Become acquainted with the word backup; its imperative!

The whole purpose of a backup in the computer world is so that in the likely event of disaster, copies of data exist and can be recovered or rolled back on.
Staring in the face of primary data failure, data corruption or human error, not all will be lost.

Not maintaining regular backups on your website could cost you a small fortune in loss of work done, loss of revenue during recovery and not to mention the cost of site rebuilds. It’s a smarter choice for all businesses to have a contingency plan in place, containing strict rules and regulations around regular backups for all systems, not just websites.
Do you have a security protocol in place?
We do!
